INTRODUCE YOURSELF

hi,
welcome to the blogspot for Peace Education, UQ.
Suggestions, additions, images, ideas, all welcome.
Please feel free to make yourself known. Leave a message for fellow peace educators. Tell a story, share some music, leave notices for events that you are interested in or involved with, email me a post and I'll add you to the authors list.
Something to consider ...
The International Day of Peace is Sept 21st. How can we celebrate this year?
Check out the Peace One Day link to see what others are doing in Brisbane.

hello...
this site looks pretty cool.
Just some news,
If we are to be doing stuff that needs headphones at microphones and some people want a discount, I work at Harvey Norman, and provided I don't buy too many, I can get some headsets for cheaper.
The problem is that I have never used them and don't know what anyone prefers. They come in a range of designes and prices, the cheapest is $8.00 (discounted)..
Here are some prices for stuff I could get..
The Logitech behind the head brand (seems to be popular) - $26.00
'Altec Lansing' - behind the neck - $21.00
'Verbatim' regular headset with microphone- $8.00
If anyone knows more or wants to suggest a good brand I'll check if my work has it and for what price.
The prices I provided are fairly accurate but might vary +/- a few dollars.
I think the max I could get would be ~5 headsets..depending on how cool my bosses are about me buying lots.
Get back to me if you're interested, either on here or s4100485@student.uq.edu.au
The end. off to do assignments :(
Thanks.
From Tenielle.

Hello everyone. I am an honorary at ACPACS but live outside Melbourne and spend about a month of each year in Queensland (or do overseas work for ACPACS). It is great to have this facility to talk to you.
Heather, thanks for getting this going.
At the moment I am doing some research on gender and peacebuilding, which is very interesting.

Hello folks,
My name is Sorcha Tormey and I work on the peace education programme at the Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation in Ireland (www.glencree.ie) I was formerly a masters student at UQ doing peace and conflict studies and have been working at Glencree for the past two years. We work mainly with schools and youth groups in Ireland north and south, but do some work with groups from Great Britain and other countries as well. At the moment, we are in the process of developing new work and new projects because we have come to the end of our current funding cycle. This is a really interesting time because we have the opportunity to deepen and enrich the work we are already doing. We are considering the further development of areas such as teacher training, whole school approach and peer mediation to name a few. If you have any thoughts or ideas about what you believe to be essential elements of, or approaches to, peace education I would be very interested in hearing about them. The more ideas the merrier!
I look forward to learning about the work you are all doing and possible connections and links we can make.
Cheers, Sorcha

Hi friends,
My name is Amanda Rader and I'm a master's student in Peace & Conflict Studies. I'm here with a World Peace fellowship from Rotary International, which has been an amazing 'gift' that has moved me to various corners of this mysterious earth. I'm concerned about it, and believe that as much networking as we can do among those that have a passion for a more nurturing experience for all, the better... Specifically, I am interested in experiential learning and cross-cultural youth interaction. Looking forward to learning from and supporting each other.
Be well,
Amanda

Hey.
Sorry everyone its taken me this long to get introduce myself.
My name is Richard. I'm a 4th Year Arts(Peace and Conflict Studies)/Law Double Degree student at UQ St Lucia. I'm also a member of the Peace Education Circle which meets once a month at UQ.
Education had always really been a bit of a black hole in my Peace and Conflict Degree. You'd toss the word Education out there as an important component of any solution and sort of just leave it at that. EDUC2040 Peace Education and Heather Millhouse have helped me to meat out this subject in my mind, and I'm looking to the future to try and understand how I can have a role in educating for peace.
Well hopefully this is the first of many posts.
Richard.

Hello Everyone,
My name is Zoe and I did Peace Ed in 2007. And I am proud to say it was the first university lecture I had attended in my life. I must say Heather set a standard that has only been matched by a couple of education lectures so far.
I haven't had much to do with the Peace Ed circle since, with work getting in the way, but I am a Girl Guide leader and I hope my 13 years of experience with the organisation at varied levels of involvement may be able to help some of you. If you have any questions I am now looking forward to having a life. :) and perhaps getting a bit more involved than I have been.
Looking forward to meeting you all!
Thanks Heather for continuing to email me despite my apparent lack of ability to reply...
Zoe

Hi everyone,
I did Peace Education in the 1st semester of 2008. I really enjoyed this course and it really opened my mind to the different aspects of peace and how each of these aspects work.
Heather was excellent in assisting any student who needed extra assistance in any aspect of the course that they were not fully grasping. The feedback on the assessment pieces was excellent as it will help me in future courses.
